Did you know that the Region of Waterloo offers down payment assistance to eligible buyers? Are you a First Time Home Buyer? If so, check out the Government of Canada's First Time Home Buyer Incentive (this program offers 5 or 10% of the home’s purchase price to put toward a down payment), Land Transfer Tax Refunds for First-Time Homebuyers (in which first-time homebuyers of an eligible home may be eligible for a refund of all or part of the tax), and the Canada Revenue Agency Home Buyers' Plan (which allows you to borrow against your RRSP's for your down payment). Additonally you may qualifiy for tax credits or rebates such as the Home Buyer's Amount (first-time homebuyers can claim up to $5000 when they file their tax return), or Moving Expenses (if you are a first time buyer and moved 40 kms closer to work or post secondary institute) and if you have purcahsed a new build you could qualify for the GST/HST New Housing Rebate (to help offset some of the tax you paid in your home).
